School End of Year routines

The end of a school year normally includes class parties, movies, games, activities, excursions and end of year concert. That was exactly what we got.

Tuesday
The end of year concert is always the last Tuesday. People start setting their seats up before school finishes. It doesn't start until 7pm. We all ways try and get there at about 6:30 and have a sausage from the sausage sizzle while we wait. The class were grouped into 7 groups and then there were other acts (office staff, choir, band etc.) in between the class acts. The first 3 class acts included the boys classes and Ruthie's class.

Damien was not impressed with what they said the song would be about. They said it would be about the real meaning of Christmas. There was only one song about the nativity, most of the others talked about Santa. It was good, the children all did well, but they shouldn't have really said it was about the real meaning of Christmas. Rory kept putting his hands up to many times when doing the movements to the song. Unfortunately we didn't get any photo but I believe Ruth may have.

Wednesday
Isiah's class had a class party Boys had the savoury and the girls the sweets. The boys always seem to get the savoury and I just want to do a sweet. Isiah wanted salad sandwiches like we have at family parties. So I spent that morning buying what I needed and then making sandwiches. He ended up with just chicken and lettuce sandwiches. Their was so much food when I got there. It was like a family party, no risk of running out of food. Charles and Juliet were able to eat the food as well. We ended up leaving with just as much food as we took, if not more.

We also had casual day(non-uniform day). The children had to donate a non perishable food to come to school in normal clothes. This is normally done on the last day at a cost of a gold coin donation. The Donations go to good cause that the SRC choose. The food was to go into hampers for the less fortunate.

Thursday
The Year 3 to Year 7 go to the Adelaide Aquatics Centre the last Thursday of the year. Rory asked me to come and watch because I wouldn't have Juliet and Charles. I went along to watch. He spent most of his time with me and not his friends. I had brought along a packed lunch for Rory and myself. So we ate together, he picked a table some of his friends were at. When we finished eating I told him to spend time with his friends. He wanted me to watch him so we had to find his friends together so I would know where to look. It was fun watching him, I don't get that opportunity very often as it is usually spent entertaining one of the others. I am so happy Rory isn't embarrassed by me yet and has no problems hugging me in front of his friends.

Friday
As the class rooms were packed up out came the movies and the games. The last day is usually bring a game to play with others. The boys are always keen to take games to school. I on the other hand are scared pieces will go missing. After careful selection of a game (I normally would hand them twister), they got to take their choose game to school.

School always ends an hour early so I picked them up at 2:10 and started our holidays.
